The sequel to Wonder Woman 1984 was officially greenlit at the end of last year, with both lead star Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins both set to return. Director Patty Jenkins, who so far has helmed both movies in the Wonder Woman franchise, confirmed the news during the most recent DC FanDome event saying, “We’re super excited about Wonder Woman 3. Gal (Gadot), who is so bummed about not being here, who’s the busiest person in the world, with now three little kids and shooting.” As well as revealing that Lynda Carter will also return for the third movie, Jenkins concluded by saying that, “We are all three very excited about some things coming up with Wonder Woman 3.”
“We’re developing the script right now. We’ll probably start in a year and a half or so.”

While the first Wonder Woman was met with much acclaim and remains one of the DC cinematic universe’s best outings, critics and audiences were a lot less enamored by Wonder Woman 1984. Thanks to some highly questionable story beats and actions from certain characters, the 1980s-set follow-up was met with mixed reviews, with many critics taking issue with Patty Jenkins, Geoff Johns, and Dave Callaham’s script.
Plot details for Wonder Woman 3 are currently being kept under wraps, but Gal Gadot has previously expressed her desire to leave the past behind and follow Diana Prince into the modern world. “I wouldn’t go, like, to the ’60s or to the ’40s with Wonder Woman,” Gadot explained. “I feel like the past has been handled well, and now it’s time to move on.”
Gal Gadot can next be seen as part of the all-star ensemble cast of Death on the Nile. Directed by Kenneth Branagh, the Agatha Christie sequel is set to be theatrically released on February 11, 2022, by 20th Century Studios.
