CBS has given a straight-to-series order for 13 episodes of Extant, a serialized drama from Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television and CBS Television Studios. The series will be broadcast during summer 2014. Extant is a futuristic thriller about a female astronaut trying to reconnect with her family when she returns after a year in outer space. Her experiences lead to events that ultimately will change the course of human history. Here’s what CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler had to say in a statement....

Fast X is back on track after securing Louis Leterrier as its new director. Last week, it was announced that Justin Lin was exiting the project event though filming had already begun. Lin, who was also planning on directing the eleventh and final installment of the movie series, reportedly stepped down due to “creative differences.” A letter from the director announcing his exit was also shared on the official Fast X social media accounts....

Fear the Walking Dead isn’t going anywhere, as the spin-off series has officially been renewed for season 6. This news came as part of the show’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con. Netflix’s new vampire show First Kill is going to be a one-and-done series. Deadline reports that Netflix has officially pulled the plug on the teen drama series following the debut of its 8-episode first season in June. There will not be a second season put into development to close out the series, meaning the season one finale will also serve as the series finale. Fox has just greenlit the comedic reality series Smile, You’re Under Arrest. According to Variety, the basic premise finds Unaware criminal suspects with outstanding warrants being lured out of hiding with the promise of riches and other rewards, only to discover that they’ve been duped by law-enforcement officials. A French film shoot found no love in a Parisian suburb. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Pierre Morrel’s From Paris with Love cancelled its film shoot in the Paris suburb of Montfermeil, which has one of France’s most dangerous housing projects. The shoot was cancelled by writer-producer Luc Besson after it was discovered that ten cars belonging to his company Europacorp’s production team, had been torched by arsonists. “It’s a real shame....

David Cassidy was in a coma and is suffering from multiple organ failure, according to reports. The 67-year old Partridge Family star and singer was rushed to hospital in Florida 3 days ago according to TMZ. In February, the star revealed he was battling dementia after he fell on stage during a concert in Los Angeles. His mother, actress Evelyn Ward, and his grandfather also had the condition. THQ Inc. and DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. announced today that they have entered into an exclusive licensing agreement to develop and publish video games based on the studio’s 2010 fall animated feature film. The film, acquired under the working title of Master Mind, is due in theatres on November 5, 2010. The new agreement grants THQ exclusive rights to publish interactive games based on the DreamWorks Animation property for all console and handheld systems, wireless devices and Windows PCs....

Drive My Car will premiere on HBO Max on March 2. The Japanese film was acquired by WarnerMedia OneFifty and will premiere on the service about three weeks ahead of the Academy Awards. This information comes exclusively from Deadline. Drive My Car is directed by Ryusuke Hamaguchi, who also co-wrote the film alongside Takamasa Oe. It is adapted from a short story of the same name by Haruki Murakami.
