The Good This is the kind of movie that would cheer anybody up. The Bad A commentary with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels would have really helped this release. Harry (Jeff Daniels) and Lloyd (Jim Carrey) are two hapless losers who go on a cross country trek to return a suitcase full of money to Mary Swanson (Lauren Holly). Buoyed by love and whatever else drives two men like Harry and Lloyd, Dumb and Dumber is the kind of film that is irresistibly rewatchable....
Tuesday’s just aren’t what they used to be… According to The Hollywood Reporter, consumers don’t have the same rush to purchase their DVD’s every Tuesday, when new releases hit the shelves. It seems the sole exception to this trend-reversal was the October release of Transformers. That isn’t a huge shock, though, since, so far, it’s one of the highest grossing theatrical movies of the year. Still, aside from that release, the Tuesday rush seems to be fading....
Along with confirmation from his Rep that Elijah Wood is confirmed for Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit, we were also told that the actor has joined Stewart Harcourt’s adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel Treasure Island. Wood will play Ben Gun opposite Eddie Izzard in this new version of the timeless tale. Steve Barron will direct the 2-part, four hour mini-series for Sky TV, which will air in the UK. There is no word on when it will air, or if it will be picked up for US distribution....
The King has boogied up big profits at the box office. Baz Luhrmann’s biopic Elvis, featuring Austin Butler as the titular singer alongside Tom Hanks as Colonel Tom Parker, has officially surpassed $100 million in ticket sales in domestic movie theaters. When factoring in overseas ticket sales, the movie is now past $170 million earned. This is obviously good news for the filmmakers as Elvis needed to pull in high numbers to be a financial success....
When Frank Miller was announced as the director for Will Eisner’s The Spirit, he received a reception unheard of for first-time directors. According to MTV Movies Blog, A-list actors were falling over themselves to try to work with him. Although Will Eisner’s The Spirit is the first time behind the camera for Miller, he was credited as a co-director for Sin City, at director Robert Rodriguez’s insistence. Eva Mendes was among those who jumped at the chance to work with Miller....

Triangle of Sadness follows a superficial model couple, Carl (Harris Dickinson) and Yaya (Charlbi Dean), on their free superyacht vacation. The trip takes a drastic turn for the pampered social media influencers, Russian oligarchs, and one-percenter business leaders. Östlund skewers wealth disparity, class divisions, and the power dynamics of relationships. The film excoriates the rich and puts them through a stunning turn of events....

In 2022, a comedy inspired by the scandal is set to release on May 27, following a fictional White House transcriber who has exclusively received a devastating 18 minutes and 30 seconds of missing Nixon tapes. She contacts a Times reporter with the intent to leak the tapes to the public and reveal the truth. They decide it’s best that they listen to the tapes in the safety of an isolated area....

Several highly anticipated features were presented, particularly in the crime category. Among them was The Good Nurse, a Netflix film starring Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne. No wonder this film has created such a buzz: both because of its terrifying yet gripping story, and the brilliant performances of its leads, two Academy Award-winners who researched and refined their characters, attending nursing school to practice with real medical professionals....

Each of the three versions of this film were released roughly 30 years apart and reflect the values of each of their eras. The Game of Thrones Prequel has locked down its first star. HBO has reportedly tapped Oscar-nominee Naomi Watts to lead the cast of the new series, which has been given a pilot order from the network. Watts had been in lengthy contract negotiations with the studio about the role and both sides managed to work things out to their mutual satisfaction. This is a huge step in the right direction for the series and shows that HBO is going to A-list talent....

The author of The Children of Men and the screenwriters of the film Children of Men (based on the book) have won the 19th-annual USC Libraries Scripter Award. British writer P.D. James published the book, her 12th, in 1992. Screenwriters Alfonso Cuarón, Timothy J. Sexton, David Arata, Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby adapted the screenplay for the 2006 film, directed by Cuarón. Scripter is awarded annually by the University of Southern California Libraries to honor writers for the best achievement in adaptation among English-language films released during the previous year and based on a book, novella or short story....
Christopher McQuarrie, best known for writing the screenplay The Usual Suspects, has been hired to write the next chapter in the X-Men Origins: Wolverine saga. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the writer also penned the original screenplay for the first X-Men, but had his name removed because he felt Bryan Singer’s film was more in line with David Hayter’s final draft. Hugh Jackman will return to star as the popular Marvel mutant....
