Ever since the Fox sitcom New Girl started last fall, fans have been waiting for roommates Nick (Jake M. Johnson) and Jess (Zooey Deschanel) to move their relationship to the next level. Fans got that wish last week during the “Cooler” episode when Nick and Jess finally kissed. Series creator Elizabeth Meriwether recently held a conference call to discuss these new developments, and how tonight’s new episode, “Table 43” will deal with this complicated relationship....

Sony Pictures Animation has emerged victorious in a bidding war for a project based on the social media icons known as Emoji. Warner Bros. and Paramount were also vying for the project, but Deadline reports that Sony Pictures Animation was much more aggressive in their pursuit of the animated movie. Anthony Leondis (B.O.O.: Bureau of Otherworldly Operations) is attached to direct and he is co-writing the screenplay with Eric Siegel....

The trailer for Evil Dead Rise has revealed a brutal return of the Deadites in Lee Cronin’s new addition to the horror franchise. This time around, Bruce Campbell’s Ash Williams is nowhere to be seen and the central location of a remote cabin has been replaced with a high rise apartment block. However, as Cronin recently explained to Total Film, the claustrophobic feel for the Evil Dead cabin has been transgressed into the movie’s apartment setting....

A pair of siblings reluctantly move back to their childhood ranch in Montana as their father is hooked up to machines and in his final moments of life. What at first appears to be a dysfunctional family is later revealed to be much more. It’s a heartfelt story with emotionally powerful performances by its leads, Haley Lu Richardson who plays Erin, and Owen Teague who plays her brother, Cal. Montana Story is the latest from directors Scott McGehee and David Siegel, who wrote the story alongside Mike Spreter....

The new comedy tracks befuddled, grieving therapist Jimmy (Jason Segel), who suddenly starts breaking rules, telling his clients exactly what’s on his mind. Putting his training and ethics aside, Jimmy begins making daring changes to people’s lives, starting with his own. The show has a lot going for it and at first glance, costar Harrison Ford emerges as a significant, stand-out playing Jimmy’s mentor Paul....

Religion can be a very tricky subject so filmmaker Peter Rodger had to be extremely careful when making his new documentary Oh My God, opening in theaters on November 13th. Fox has ordered 13 episodes of Glee, an inspiring musical comedy series from Ryan Murphy (Nip/Tuck, Popular). The one-hour series follows an optimistic high school teacher as he tries to transform the school’s Glee Club and inspire a group of ragtag performers to make it to the biggest competition of them all: Nationals. The show will debut in 2009 and features a soundtrack of hit songs from past to present....

The Good Chevy Chase and the rest of the cast give decent accounts of themselves here. The Bad A commentary track from Chevy Chase and some of the cast members would have been nice. Funny Money is yet another take on the misplaced briefcase/mistaken identity theme. Based on Ray Cooney’s British play, Chevy Chase is Henry Perkins, a mild mannered man who accidentally picks up the wrong briefcase on the subway....

Crime Scene Pictures Partners Adam Ripp and Rob Paris announced that Alan Rickman (Harry Potter Series, Alice in Wonderland) and Sir Tom Courtenay (The Golden Compass) have joined the cast of Gambit, which is based on the 1966 British caper comedy which starred Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine. Rickman will portray Lord Shahbandar and Sir Tom Courtenay will step into the role of The Major. Mike Lobell (The Freshman, Honeymoon in Vegas) is producing alongside Crime Scene Pictures partners Adam Ripp and Rob Paris, who are also financing....

This season of Game of Thrones has already offered plenty of surprises, with long-lost characters returning, some from the dead, some from just long hiatuses. Earlier today, we showed you new photos from this weekend’s episode, No One, which marks the eighth episode of this season, while the network also revealed the titles for the ninth (The Battle of the Bastards) and 10th (The Winds of Winter) episodes. The former star of Netflix’s hit docu-series Cheer Jerry Harris has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for soliciting sex from minors and pressuring young boys to send him nude photos via social media. USA Today reports that the sentence comes following an almost seven-hour hearing Wednesday, which included victim impact statements detailing the lasting effects of Harris’ abuse. Harris, a former Navarro cheerleader and fan favorite from the first season of Cheer, was arrested in September 2020 on charges of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old during a cheer competition and paying a 17-year-old to send him explicit content via Snapchat....

Filming begins this week on Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Village Roadshow Pictures’ Dark Shadows, which brings the cult classic television series to the big screen under the direction of Tim Burton. The CW’s update of Melrose Place has been given the greenlight with an official pilot order, and set Oscar winner Davis Guggenheim to direct. According to The Hollywood Reporter, in other news filmmaker Jeffrey Nachmanoff has signed on to direct the Fox drama pilot Masterwork. In pilot castings, Zosia Mamet, daughter of playwright-filmmaker David Mamet, has landed her first starring role on Fox’s comedy pilot Absolutely Fabulous.
