Franchises seem to be the backbone of the box office, nowadays. The basic film franchise is not an inherently bad thing, but it does pose a threat to smaller independent films that are trying to find their success in the industry. Spider-Man: No Way Home made over $1 billion at the box office while Paul Thomas Anderson’s Licorice Pizza barely made $11 million, as of January 13. Whether the franchise film belongs to Harry Potter, Marvel, DC, or Star Wars, there is enough of a fanbase for these films to make hundreds of millions of dollars (and sometimes even billions)....

Fear the Walking Dead returns with a red-eyed, gangrene-infected Morgan (Lennie James) on the run. The season six premiere marks a change of philosophy for our hero. “The End Is The Beginning” introduces Morgan to several new characters. They force him to examine his passive, do no harm mantra. The character that emerges is the ass-kicking, take no prisoners, apocalypse warrior that TWD fans have been begging to see. This Fear the Walking Dead episode opens with the sun glaring in the sky....

Kevin Reilly, Chairman, Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company, today unveiled the Fox primetime slate for the 2013-2014 television season to the national advertising community during its annual Programming Presentation at the Beacon Theatre. Here’s what the Fox chairman had to say in a statement. Dads and Brooklyn Nine-Nine are the two new comedies joining the Tuesday night comedy block this fall. Dads, the new live-action, multi-camera comedy from Emmy Award winner Seth MacFarlane, Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild (Ted, Family Guy), stars Emmy Award winner Seth Green (Family Guy) and Emmy Award nominee Giovanni Ribisi (My Name Is Earl, Ted, Avatar) as two successful gaming entrepreneurs - and childhood best friends - whose lives get turned upside down when their pain-in-the-neck patriarchs (Martin Mull, Two and a Half Men and Academy Award and Emmy Award nominee Peter Riegert, The Good Wife, The Sopranos) move in....

The most elusive cult creeper ever made finally makes its way to DVD and Blu-ray October 27th! Night of the Creeps has become one of the most sought after late night cult creepers ever made. After hitting the video store circuit in the mid-80s on VHS tape (and VHS alone), the film quickly disappeared. It would later crawl out from late night cable television on that rare occasion, like some long dormant creature hungry for flesh....

It’s been quite the ride for the Full Frontal with Samantha Bee team this year. In July, it was reported that the show had been given the boot with TBS canceling Full Frontal after seven seasons. This was said at the time to be another casualty of the Warner Bros. Discovery merger and came as a bit of a surprise for many fans. “As we continue to shape our new programming strategy, we’ve made some difficult, business-based decisions,” a TBS spokeswoman said in a statement at the time....

FX has finalized its casting on the drama series pilot Hoke, starring actor/producer Paul Giamatti, with Oona Chaplin, John Carroll Lynch, Robert Wisdom, Jordi Mollà and Tammy Blanchard rounding out the cast. Hoke is produced by FX Productions, and production on the pilot will begin this spring in Miami. Scott Frank wrote and will direct the pilot episode, and he will be Co-Showrunner with David Manson if Hoke goes to series....

More sad news is coming in as Extra correspondent Cheslie Kryst has reportedly died. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Kryst was found dead at 7:05 a.m. on Sunday morning on the sidewalk outside of the Orion Condominium building in Manhattan where she’d been living. The New York Police Department has ruled her passing a suicide and it is believed she willingly jumped from several stories up to her death. She was 30 years old....

In recent years, except for David Bruckner’s 2022 Hellraiser reboot and Nia DaCosta’s Candyman, there has been little to no mainstream interest in adapting the work of Clive Barker. News of Nightbreed to be adapted for SyFy and a rumored Hellraiser TV show that would back Clive Barker has died out in recent year. The last substantial book to tackle the Hellraiser mythos was Barker’s The Scarlet Gospels and Boom! Studios’ output, chronicling an infernal war between old adversaries Kirsty Cotton and Pinhead....

So, here we are… a hearty few weeks into the new TV season (ok, we’ll call it several), and what do I see? Reruns, reruns everywhere!. Damn, I hate reruns! The Unit turned in reruns, as have several of my other favorites. Nothing worse than getting set up for a new week of adventure, only to be served an episode from Season 1 (I know… I have the Season 1 set right here… Yes, it was on that set…)....

Daredevil is returning to the MCU. Four years since the series was canceled by Netflix, it was recently reported that Marvel was developing a new Daredevil series for Disney+ that would be a continuation of the series. Rumors of the Daredevil character returning to the MCU had circulated for a while. They were given further fuel with the combination of Charlie Cox appearing as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Vincent D’Onofrio in Hawkeye in the same week, as well as the entire Defenders Saga, being taken off Netflix and brought over to Disney+....

Though 2020 has largely been a burning trash pile, the announcement that Showtime’s serial killing anti-hero Dexter would be returning for a ninth season was one of the rare, pleasant surprises. Well, according to new reports, audiences won’t have to wait too long to join Dexter on his latest adventure, with season 9 reportedly scheduled to begin production in January of next year. But that’s not all, with reports also revealing details of the new big-bad that Dex will be going up against, whilst also suggesting that none other than John Cusack is being eyed to star....

District 9 star Sharlto Copley cannot stop discussing the arrival of the long-awaited sequel District 10 lately, with the actor offering another update – and rapping director Neill Blomkamp on the knuckles while he does it. The classic Disney animated TV series DuckTales celebrates its 30th Anniversary this month. And while there is a new reboot on the horizon, which has a slightly reworked theme song, a new rock-metal cover has arrived to help fans party down on the popular show’s birthday. And it is as irresistible as any version of the theme song yet released, whether it is barn yard animals humming the tune, or little kids getting the lyrics wildly wrong....

It seems that a new spin-off film has added another to its cast. Moviehole is reporting that Russell Brand revealed on an Australian morning radio show that Emily Blunt will be his co-star in Get Him to the Greek, a spin-off film dealing with his Forgetting Sarah Marshall character, Aldous Snow. The film will also star Jonah Hill as a brand new character who must get Brand’s Snow - now in a drug-fueled stupor - from London to Los Angeles for a show at the Greek Theater....

Schitt’s Creek is a Canadian sitcom created by the father-son duo Eugene and Dan Levy. The series follows the Rose family — Johnny (Eugene Levy), Moira (Catherine O’Hara), David (Dan Levy) and Alexis (Annie Murphy) as they lose all their wealth and have their lives flipped entirely upside down. The show premiered in 2015 and ran for six seasons until 2020, with 80 total episodes. Schitt’s Creek’s arrival on Netflix helped catapult its popularity, and it’s still wildly popular today....
