For Emily Skeggs, a theater kid born in New York City, starring in Dinner in America, in a story set in the Midwestern American suburbs, proved to be a deeply personal journey. In our interview ahead of the film’s limited theatrical release, Skeggs recalls how the script was sent her way in the spring/summer of 2018 and that it was “pitched to me as a Napoleon Dynamite-punk rock love story.” At this point, Kyle Gallner (Veronica Mars, Scream) was already attached to play Simon, the film’s lead, and Skeggs was up for the role of Patty....

Fallout Entertainment has bought the rights to remake the 1975 blaxploitation action comedy, Dolemite. Bill Fishman will direct the Jeff Hause and David Hines screenplay; the film is inspired by a character created by comedian-writer-producer Rudy Ray Moore during the 1970s. He’s an ex-con who, in attempting to regain control of his nightclub, is joined by a squad of ‘kung-fu fighting girls’ and other allies as he goes up against all who stand in his way, says The Hollywood Reporter....

The Marvel Studios series Ms. Marvel is about a Pakistani-American Muslim superhero Kamala Khan, played by newcomer Iman Vellani, and is set to debut on Disney+ later this year. In the comics, Khan struggles to fit in until she gets superpowers like shape-shifting abilities and superhuman strength, but little is known about the upcoming series despite a sizzle reel. According to Variety, Warner Bros. will be bringing out Clint Eastwood’s Nelson Mandela film Invictus on Dec. 11. Morgan Freeman stars as the famous human rights advocate. Matt Damon also headlines this film. Eastwood took the title of the film from a short poem that Mandela often recited. It was written by William Ernest Henley. Initially, the film was called The Human Factor. It was adapted from John Carlin’s novel “Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game That Made a Nation....

At this year’s Comic-con, I was able to set down with crew members from the highly anticipated Summer “funcore” flick Snakes on a Plane. First I talked with Director David Ellis… Next up was everyone’s favorite Mother F**ker, Samuel L. Jackson, the star of Snakes on a Plane. And lets face it, this isn’t exactly Sheakspear. After shooing away a quick question about his shameful surfing skills, I asked him if, at this point in his career, getting the Action Figure was more important than getting the Oscar....

The Crank Yankers team invaded San Diego Comic-Con this year for a special panel to speak about the show’s upcoming return to Comedy Central, revealing all-new footage and prank calls. Present at the panel were executive producer and showrunner Jonathan Kimmel, joined by voice talent David Alan Grier (The Cool Kids), Chelsea Peretti (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), and Bobby Moynihan (Happy!), along with production designer Gary Kordan. Jeff Garlin revealed some Curb Your Enthusiasm news during an ABC’s The Goldbergs Q&A last week. “Yeah, I’m in touch with him,” Garlin said when a reporter asked if he’d spoken recently to Curb creator Larry David. “I went to see his (Broadway) show in New York and we do talk.” So what about another season of the HBO comedy, following the already announced upcoming eleventh season? Film icon Dennis Hopper has been set to star in Crash, the first original drama series from Starz Entertainment, based on the Academy Award-winning Best Picture. The 13-episode one-hour series, co-produced with Lionsgate, has begun production in Albuquerque, N.M., with additional filming to take place in and around Los Angeles, Calif. Sanford Bookstaver (Jericho, Bones, The O.C.) will direct the premiere episode of the drama, which will debut on Starz in October....
