Fremantle’s business model, which involves a cluster of companies mostly across Europe that they either own or are majority investors in, has seen an increase in their film output. At Venice last year, the company had two movies showing; this year, they have six films launching from the Lido. According to Variety, three of them are in competition, which is more than any of the U.S. studios or streamers. There are Bones and All, an Italian production with an Italian director, but an English-language movie with an international cast....

FX’s brand new fantasy football league series is gearing up for another draft next season. According to The Hollywood Reporter, FX has renewed The League with a 13-episode second season order. The ratings have been decent for the network, averaging about 1 million viewers per episode during its first five episodes. The sixth episode and first season premiere will air tomorrow night. “We’ve been very pleased with the creative and ratings trajectory of The League and believe it’s an excellent fit with our comedy brand,” FX executive vp programming Nick Grad said....

Timothy Dalton (License to Kill) will guest-star in a multi-episode arc on NBC’s action-comedy Chuck (Mondays, 8-9 p.m. ET). Timothy Dalton will be playing a mysterious stranger who has a history with Chuck’s (series star Zachary Levi) mom, played by Linda Hamilton (Terminator Salvation). This marks Timothy Dalton’s first series appearance on American television since he guest-starred on Charlie’s Angels in 1979. Timothy Dalton is perhaps best known for his portrayal of James Bond in The Living Daylights and License to Kill....

Lionsgate TV has beat out five rival studios for the rights to Zenescope’s Wonderland graphic novel series. Other studios in the mix were Warner Bros. Television, CBS TV, 20th Century Fox TV, ABC Studios and Sony TV. Brian Robbins (Smallville) will serve as an executive producer under his first-look deal with Lionsgate. The graphic novels were created by Zenescope co-founders Joe Brusha, Ralph Tedesco and Raven Gregory. This modern-day retelling of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland is told through the eyes of Alice’s daughter....

In a story from The Wall Street Journal, major studios and one of the country’s largest cable providers are in talks to bring movies to people’s living-rooms only weeks after the films are in theaters. Executives from Time Warner Cable Inc. recently made the initial pitch to the Hollywood studios for what is being called “home theater on demand.” The main scenario being talked about would have consumers watch a movie at home only 30 days after its theatrical release....

Last week, I was invited to Washington D.C. to take part in a special press event for Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, which debuts on Blu-ray and DVD April 17. The event took place at the International Spy Museum, right in the heart of our nation’s capital, which is quite an amazing facility that I highly recommend visiting if you ever find yourself within the Beltway. Director Brad Bird was on hand for a Q&A session with the press, but first off, I got to sit down, one-on-one, with Dale Shelton, who served as a weapons consultant on the sequel....

In a world of reboots, specifically 90s properties, Daria is one of those properties that has jumped on and off the shelf. But according to Variety, it looks like the spinoff is finally happening. The spinoff, simply titled Jodie, will be an animated film centering around Daria’s friend and former classmate. In the original Daria series, Jodie was a reoccurring character. Unlike most of the other students at Lawndale High, Jodie was a fellow intellectual and one of the only other kids that understood Daria’s sense of humor....

The next video game to get a feature film adaptation is Death Stranding. Per Deadline, the news comes shortly after the announcement that the hit video game would be getting a sequel. Hideo Kojima, who designed and directed the game, is on board for the movie as a producer under his Kojima Productions banner. He’s partnering up with Barbarian executive producer Alex Lebovici of Hammerstone Studios on the project. Lebovici will produce alongside Kojima while Kojima Productions US serves as executive producer with Allan Ungar....

DJ Qualls plays Davey Sutton, a young police officer who fancies himself to be Dwight’s protégé, yet he struggles to get Dwight to even like him. Davey is not a dumb guy. More often than not, he’s just a victim of trying too hard in his quest to be successful and appreciated. There’s never any question that Davey’s heart is in the right place. And every once in a while, his insights into Memphis and its people prove to be very valuable....

He’s forced to play a cat and mouse game with the terrifying Jigsaw Killer (Tobin Bell). Wahlberg’s not really a fan of the horror genre, but saw an exciting opportunity in making the sequel to Saw. He wouldn’t comment on further sequels to the franchise, but this weekend’s box office will be a sure indicator of a Saw III....

DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. (Nasdaq: DWA) today announced that the Company has entered into a new five-year distribution agreement with Twentieth Century Fox. Under the terms of the agreement, Fox will assume certain marketing and distribution responsibilities in both domestic and international markets for all animated feature films produced by DreamWorks Animation for release in 2013 through 2017. “Fox has long been an industry leader in both theatrical and home video thanks in large part to its well-integrated approach to distribution across a wide range of platforms around the globe,” said Jeffrey Katzenberg, Chief Executive Officer of DreamWorks Animation....

Emilia Clarke may have spent eight seasons as the commandeering Mother of Dragons, but the actress has no interest in exploring her character’s lineage in the Game of Thrones prequel series. Following the dragon-born ancestors of Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen, House of the Dragon is set roughly 200 years before the events of the first HBO series. Despite only having one season thus far, the Game of Thrones prequel has been a massive hit, earning its cast Golden Globe and Critic’s Choice nods....

Amin Joseph plays Willie Mays Aikens in The Royal, a true story drama based on the former Kansas City Royals player. Aikens’ career as a professional baseball player took a turn in a disastrous direction when he sold crack cocaine to an undercover police officer, receiving a sentence of 24 years in prison. The Royal picks up when Aikens is released, after 14 years served, following his return to professional baseball with the help of his estranged family and friends, while ultimately achieving personal wins along the way....

The stars of Father Christmas is Back—Kelsey Grammer, Elizabeth Hurley, Nathalie Cox, Naomi Frederick—return for another family reunion and plenty of confusion in Christmas in Paradise.
