Darren Aronofsky has scored a pinfall with Fox Searchlight. According to Variety, the Fox indie arm has picked up Aronofsky’s new film, The Wrestler, which is the first major sale of the Toronto Film Festival, followed by Danny Boyle’s gritty but moving Slumdog Millionaire. The studio won the bidding war for the film, which stars Mickey Rourke, picking up the film for $4 milliion, beating out other studios such as Lionsgate, Overture, Weinstein Co....

Writer / Director Frank Miller has updated his official production blog for his upcoming graphics novel adaptation, Will Eisner’s The Spirit, starring Gabriel Macht, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson and Eva Mendes. The blog reveals the latest production status of the film, including The Spirit’s love interest in the film, Ellen Dolan, played by Sarah Paulson (Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip). Adapted from the legendary Will Eisner’s graphic novels, The Spirit tells the visceral, action-packed story of a man who fakes his own death and fights crime from the shadows of Central City....

20th Century Fox has chosen Real Steel director, Shawn Levy to fast-track a remake of Frankenstein in a race to beat at least a half-dozen other projects based on the classic monster tale. Max Landis’s Frankenstein has been described as a sci-fi spin on the traditional Mary Shelley story, focusing on themes of friendship and redemption. Other Frankenstein projects around Hollywood that involve the classic monster include Haley Joel Osment, set to star in Wake the Dead, a modern-day horror take based on Steven Niles’ graphic novels, which appeared to put the Jay Russell-directed project at Slasher Films out front....

The world of Westeros continues to expand. It has come to light that a Game of Thrones animated series is in the works for HBO Max. It is stressed that the show is in the early stages of development. But it further signals that HBO sees the world George R.R. Martin created in his beloved A Song of Fire and Ice series of fantasy books is one that can grow beyond a single show....

He cheers them for killing the Starks in cold blood, but admonishes them for unwisely not killing them all. “A wolf left standing is a threat to all of the sheep,” he cackles. The Freys begin to vomit, convulse, and drop dead to the ground....

After Sunday night’s Season 6 finale, The Winds of Winter, the long wait for Season 7 of HBO’s Game of Thrones has begun, and for many fans, it will seem as long as a Westeros winter. Earlier this month, one of this season’s directors, Jack Bender, dropped a surprising piece of information in an interview, revealing that Season 7 will only be seven episodes long, with the eighth and final season set to be just six episodes long to close out the series....

Details about who will be returning to the Fast and Furious franchise for Fast X have been coming in over the last week since Vin Diesel made the title announcement for the tenth movie in the long-running franchise. The latest name to confirm their return is Charlize Theron, who shared a behind the scenes look at her villain, Cipher. Theron originally joined the franchise in The Fate of the Furious in 2017 and has continued to be a part of the series, last appearing in F9 when she once against escaped to fight another day meaning it was almost a given that she would be coming back for the penultimate round of high-octane action....

It’s fitting that 18th Century French-Caribbean violinist and composer, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, was nicknamed “Black Mozart.” The trailer for the upcoming biopic Chevalier very much suggests a biopic in the mold of the 1984 classic Mozart drama Amadeus. Director Stephen Williams’ film posits Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges (1745-1799), to tell the story of the rise to fame of the first recorded Black classical music composer. He had to endure racism and a complicated and heavily scrutinized love life at a time when the age of enlightenment and the age of slavery clashed greatly in French society....

It was announced here back in December that the character of Chloe Sullivan, played by Allison Mack, from Smallville would be crossing from television to the world of Superman comics. Sadly, that seems to no longer be the case, according to a report from Earth’s Mightiest.com. “Chloe is an exciting character on the television show, and we had hoped to work her into DC continuity,” DiDio told Newsarama last week, “but unfortunately, the stars did not align properly, and even though we had announced it, she will not be appearing in any of the issues of Superman or Action Comics....

Christina Ricci has added her thoughts on the storm building around Andrea Riseborough’s Best Actress nomination at the 2023 Academy Awards. The nod for Riseborough has gained a lot of attention in the last few days after her inclusion was brought into question due to a social media campaign launched by the wife of To Leslie director Michael Morris in the weeks leading up to the nominations. Combined with complaints about other stars that “should have been nominated” in Riseborough’s place, Ricci has called the whole debacle something that the Academy should be shamed about if they end up canceling Riseborough’s nomination....

A new Child’s Play TV series is currently in development by franchise creator Don Mancini and producer David Kirschner. Mancini was previously toying with the idea of bringing Chucky into the World War II era and though that idea seems pretty strange, even for Chucky. The creator says he has a ton of ideas to continue the story after last year’s Cult of Chuckie. Which leads us to the idea of the new TV series and how it will continue to tell the story of the murderous doll....

Nickelodeon is bringing back Clarissa Explains It All. Melissa Joan Hart, who starred as the titular teenager in the original series, is set to return for the revival, with original series creator Mitchell Kriegman also in talks to write and direct this Clarissa reboot. Nickelodeon has yet to officially comment on the series’ return, but it’s being reported that this is in the early stages, so it may not actually make it to air for a little while....

As promised, Kevin Smith has released a new trailer for Clerks III. Last week, Smith divulged that the trailer would be arriving on July 6, and to tease its release, the filmmaker has been dropping various posters for the sequel. With the big day now here, Smith has followed through with the premiere of the first trailer for Clerks III, taking fans back to the Quick Stop with Dante and Randal clocked back in....

Clifford the Big Red Dog is a hilarious children’s film that will delight the entire family. A bullied and lonely girl’s wish for friendship ends up being a ten feet tall, vibrant red playful puppy. Insane hijinks ensue as the dog wreaks comedic havoc in Manhattan. Clifford the Big Red Dog has a winning combo of physical humor, clever double entendres, and perfect casting. I found myself laughing consistently throughout and left the theater with a big goofy smile....

As the world learned of the passing of Robbie Coltrane Friday morning, tributes have begun to pour in from the legendary actor’s former co-stars and friends. Among those sharing sweet sentiments about their time with the late actor is Coltrane’s Harry Potter co-star Daniel Radcliffe. The duo starred as major characters in all eight movies in the magical franchise, Radcliffe as the titular boy wizard and Coltrane as kind Hogwarts groundskeeper Rubeus Hagrid....

The extraordinary seventh season of American Idol came to a spectacular conclusion tonight as 25-year-old David Cook was crowned the winner during the live two-hour season finale on Fox. A new record was set after an amazing 97.5 million votes were received after Tuesday’s performance show, shattering the previous IDOL record of 74 million set after last season’s American Idol finale. It was a duel of the Davids when Archuleta and Cook each performed three songs on Tuesday night’s final competition show....

The Good All of the actors do semi-decent work in this movie. The Bad This film is beyond predictable. Derailed is one of those movies that overplays it’s hand. This film, about a man and a woman who are accosted while having an affair, never had that twist ending that I was supposed to be in awe of. Charles (Clive Owen) and Lucinda (Jennifer Aniston) meet on a train and eventually try and have said affair....
