Per The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix will go forward with a live-action film remake of a beloved classic Japanese manga called City Hunter. The film will be directed by Yuichi Sato (Kisaragi, Strawberry Nights), while the executive producer will be Shinichi Takahashi. Starring as the story’s main character Ryo Saeba will be played by award-winning Japanese actor Ryohei Suzuki (Tokyo MER, My Love Story). City Hunter was originally created by manga artist Tsukasa Hojo and was a mega-popular series in Japan and worldwide throughout the 1980s....

Daniel Radcliffe’s name is synonymous with the Harry Potter franchise, playing the titular character through eight films for over a decade of his career. However, the 33-year-old actor is set to give another iconic performance as he portrays the famous parody singer ‘Weird Al’ in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. Radcliffe seems to completely transform himself into ‘Weird Al’ in the various trailers that have been released over the last few months....

Incendies director Denis Villeneuve has signed onto direct Prisoners, more than a year after Antoine Fuqua stepped away from the project. Prisoners centers on a father who becomes a vigilante after his daughter is kidnapped. When the police fail to make any progress on the case, the father holds a man hostage who is believed to be responsible for the kidnapping. The movie will be French-Canadian director Denis Villeneuve’s English-language movie debut....

DreamWorks has optioned the rights to Platinum Studios’ comic book Atlantis Rising for a live-action feature adaptation to be produced by studio-based Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, according to The Hollywood Repoter. Created by Rosenberg, Atlantis Rising is a five-part miniseries first published by Platinum Studios Comics in November. The fifth and final installment in the series, written by Scott O. Brown and drawn by Tim Irwin and Andy Elder, is due on comic book shelves in late April....

Emily Mortimer has joined the cast of the crime thriller, Transsiberian for Spain’s Filmax Entertainment and Germany’s Universum Film GmbH. She’s replacing Samantha Morton in the film written and directed by Brad Anderson. Also starring is Woody Harrelson, Kate Mara, Eduardo Noriega and Ben Kingsley. The Hollywood Reporter says the film revolves around an American couple, Roy (Harrelson) and Jessie (Mortimer), who travel on the famed Trans-Siberian train from China to Moscow....

Bryan Singer’s WWII thriller Valkyrie was befallen by a touch of bad luck on Sunday. According to The Hollywood Reporter, ten extras fell out of the back of a truck while filming a scene for the Tom Cruise flick. The accident happened to the second unit, without Cruise or Singer in attendance. The extras fell off the truck when a side panel burst open as the truck they were in took a corner....

This Friday, acclaimed director Tyler Perry will debut his latest drama For Colored Girls, which is based on Ntozake Shange’s 1974 choreopoem For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf. This big screen adaptation weaves together the stories of nine different women as they move in and out of one another’s existences. After the recent ruling by a Los Angeles judge, Fox is seeking to put one of the biggest releases of 2009 on hold. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox has filed a court order to delay the impending release of Warner Brothers’ film, Watchmen. Last week in Los Angeles, U.S. District Court Judge Gary Feess ruled in Fox’s favor, that Warner Brothers infringed on Fox’s copyright for the film by developing and shooting the new movie....
