Directed by Robert Rodriguez and scripted by Quentin Tarantino, From Dusk till Dawn tells the story of criminal brothers (George Clooney and Tarantino) who head to Mexico with hostages in tow to avoid the law in the U.S., only to wind up trapped in a saloon that’s overrun with bloodthirsty vampires. The film was a hit at the box office and would spawn a franchise that includes multiple sequels....

Following the photos, poster and first clip from next week’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode, “End of the Beginning”, ABC has released yet another clip, featuring the villainous Deathlok (J. Demian Bichir will star in the Mexican film Hidalgo-Moliere, which centers on the father of the Mexican independence movement. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor also is in talks for a starring role in an untitled drama about South Florida gang leader Leona Sanchez. Antonio Serrano is directing Hidalgo-Moliere, which focuses on Hidalgo’s early years in the theater and his rise to leading the Mexican War of Independence in the early 1800s....

The man once known as Dirty Steve reminisces about his formative youth, and having to step into the role of his own father Dermot Mulroney has been a prominent film force ever since making his big screen debut in Young Guns as Dirty Steve. This summer, he stars as Bryan Bowen, head of the soccer obsessed Bowen family in Gracie. Gracie tells the story of a teenage girl who must fight for her right to play on the boys’ high school soccer team....

During their interview with The Wolfman director Joe Johnston, Film Journal got the latest on the pre-production from the director about the upcoming big screen adaptation of the beloved comic series, Captain America. Captain America is slated for a July 22nd, 2011 release and is rumored to star Samuel L. Jackson. “We’re in prep,” Johnston says. “Rick Heinrichs is production-designing and we’re set up down in Manhattan Beach [California]. It’s the part of the process that I love the most,” he enthuses....

Discovery Channel is joining with producer Craig Piligian to bring to life the engineering designs of the original Renaissance man, Leonardo Da Vinci, in a reality-like show tentatively titled Doing Da Vinci. According to The Hollywood Reporter, during the 16th century, Da Vinci conceptualized many inventions that now are considered hundreds of years ahead of their time. The master artist’s journals include blueprints of a helicopter, a tank, a calculator and the harvesting of solar power....

Biopics are having a huge moment in the 2020s. In just 2022, there were movies released about Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Whitney Houston, and even Weird Al Yankovic, among many, many more. The huge volume of these films within the same vein invites questions and comparisons to be made about what works, what doesn’t, and why such different responses are given to each project. Different responses aren’t a matter of people responding best to the most accurate portrayals of their favorite celebrities....

HBO is approaching an interesting strategy with Game of Thrones at the Primetime Emmy Awards this year, as seen by the episode picks they’ve submitted for consideration. Curiously, the company is even submitting the highly controversial series finale, “The Iron Throne,” as a contender for Best Writing. This is rather peculiar, as anyone with the internet has seen the complaints stemming from this episode, with there being particularly heavy criticism over the show’s creative direction....

The Doom Patrol will be back for more next month, this time on HBO Max. Season 2 of the DC Comics series is set to debut on June 25. When the show was renewed, it was revealed that new episodes would be coming to HBO Max, the new marquee streaming service from WarnerMedia that launches later this month. But the episodes will also be streaming simultaneously on the DC Universe streaming service, for now at least....
