Filming 2014’s Edge of Tomorrow was physically taxing for Emily Blunt, who co-starred in the sci-fi action movie alongside Tom Cruise. Directed by Doug Liman, the film is set in a post-apocalyptic future where a soldier (Cruise) is caught in a time loop during an alien invasion, forced to repeatedly relive his death courtesy of the otherworldly invaders. Hoping to take what he learns from each loop, the human warrior and a comrade (Blunt) team up with the hope of vanquishing the invaders and saving the planet....

The Italian city of Turin is well known for being home to some staggering architecture, two excellent soccer teams… and, last Saturday, for one night only, the Eurovision Song Contest. The annual celebration of Euro pop culture may have produced no surprises when it came to the winner. Still, it delivered in every other way. The contest began with a slew of strong entries. The Czech Republic began the proceedings with a four-to-the-floor dance track by We Are Domi, and Norwegian entry Subwoolfer raised a smile with their cartoonish, bespectacled wolf heads....

Uniting a stellar cast, Evening begins filming in Rhode Island this week for Focus Features. The Hart Sharp Entertainment production, adapted by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Michael Cunningham (The Hours) from Susan Minot’s best-selling novel of the same name, is directed by Lajos Koltai (Fateless). Focus Features CEO James Schamus made the announcement today. The cast of Evening includes Golden Globe Award winner Claire Danes, Academy Award nominee Toni Collette, Academy Award winner Vanessa Redgrave, Emmy Award nominee Patrick Wilson (“Angels in America”), Emmy Award nominee Hugh Dancy (“Elizabeth I”), Tony Award winner Natasha Richardson, Dame Eileen Atkins (Gosford Park), screen newcomer Mamie Gummer, Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Lake House), five-time Academy Award nominee Glenn Close, and two-time Academy Award winner Meryl Streep....

As Wendell & Wild director Henry Selick will tell you, stop-motion is the oldest type of animation. In addition to Selick, some other acclaimed filmmakers have used this classic type of technology over the years — Wes Anderson, Charlie Kaufman, Tim Burton. And now Jordan Peele has produced a new stop-motion film of his own, with Lyric Ross (This Is Us) voicing the main character. Netflix’s new animated tale follows scheming demon brothers Wendell (Keegan-Michael Key) and Wild (Peele), who enlist the aid of Kat Elliot (Ross) — a tough teen with a load of guilt — to summon them to the Land of the Living....

Joel Kim Booster, the writer and star of the new Hulu film Fire Island, wrote a wonderful autobiographical piece for Penguin Random House, in which he describes the titular gay destination spot: His often hilarious film, directed by Andrew Ahn and loosely based on Pride and Prejudice, expertly explores this divide (between class, race, sexuality, and more) in a way many queer films tend to avoid, and for understandable reasons. However, Fire Island does this in the most subtle of ways and, like the Jane Austen novel on which it’s loosely based, manages to be very entertaining and just as appealing to people who are simply looking for a good time as it is to any intellectual....

Adult Swim’s newest animated hero makes his television debut July 9, at 12:15 a.m. (ET/PT), he’s Apollo Gauntlet, an Earth cop (well, Canadian cop) who becomes a superhero in a strange, inter-dimensional world known as Kingdom Bellanus. Armed with a skin-tight suit and talking gauntlets, he’s armed and ready for action! Adult Swim has debuted several new images, offering a first look at the characters who inhabit this animated sci-fi universe on Apollo Gauntlet....

Frank Miller is hard at work trying to bring Will Eisner’s The Spirit to life properly. On the official Lionsgate site for Will Eisner’s The Spirit, Miller relates in his production blog how he and the crew are bending this way and that to remain faithful to Will Eisner’s work: We’re giving our all to translate the drama and joy of Will’s creation to the screen. With so many people working hard every day on this project, I realize much more is happening than I ever expected or dreamed of....

The best part about these free lunches is, usually, you get to have them with actors or directors or other movie folk, which is exactly what happened when I went down to the Paramount lot for a press lunch with some of the folks that brought us Friday the 13th, Part VII: The New Blood and Friday the 13th, Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan....

Way back in 2012, Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin hinted that he was discussing possibilities for a prequel series, set 100 years before the show, following two characters in Westeros named Dunk and Egg. This potential series would be based on novellas the author has published, but we never heard much further about this show. Last year, these rumors surfaced again, hinting that the network would debut a prequel series after the flagship Game of Thrones series comes to an end....

This is my first Comic-Con and I heard that the lines were insane. I also heard that each day, everything gets worse, and more packed and insanely, well, insane. I heard from many Comic-Con vets that Saturday was the best for panels, which conversely means it is the absolute worse for the lines into those panels. This was made quite clear to me as I rolled up to Hall H to get in line for the Heroes panel....

Even though all streaming platforms try their best in catering to each and every genre out there, Hulu has exceptionally served great offerings to horror fans recently with 2022’s Hellraiser and the upcoming 2023 adaptation of Stephen King’s The Boogeyman. Sony will be expanding its Marvel Universe with Madame Web, a feature film based on the Marvel Comics character. Running concurrently with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sony’s franchise includes the two previously-released Venom movies along with Morbius and the upcoming movie Kraven the Hunter. Madame Web will be the first film in this universe to feature a female lead and Dakota Johnson will be starring as the titular crime-fighter. There’s still a lot about the Madame Web film that is shrouded in mystery....

Dennis Rodman has been in the news a lot lately over the past few months due to his relationship with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. While appearing at the Comedy Central Roast of Bruce Willis, the former NBA star player made a joke that included Kim and the audience quickly turned to boo him.
