DreamWorks Animation today announced that talented filmmaker Chris Sanders is set to helm the upcoming project Crood Awakening, a comedy set in the Stone Age. Sanders will be joining the DreamWorks Animation family for the first time as the film’s director, having amassed an impressive list of animation film credits on some of the genre’s most successful and groundbreaking films, including the worldwide hits Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Mulan and Lilo & Stitch....

It’s the end of an era as Conan O’Brien has set a date for the end of his run as a television talk show host. On Monday, Team Coco announced that Conan on TBS will air its final episode on the network on June 24 after an 11-season run. The good news is that O’Brien isn’t through with entertaining us just yet, as he’ll next produce a weekly variety talk show that’s in the works at HBO Max....

The Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA), a new offshoot of the Broadcast Film Critics Association, today announced the winners of the first-ever Critics’ Choice Television Awards. The star-studded luncheon to acknowledge and honor the best in television was held at the Beverly Hills Hotel and hosted by So You Think You Can Dance star Cat Deeley. Mad Men took home the prize for Best Drama Series while Modern Family won in the Best Comedy Series category....

The CW Network ordered three pilots today, which were previously in development: Arrow, The Carrie Diaries, and Beauty and the Beast. We first reported on Arrow last week, when the network was in final negotiations to order the pilot, which is based on The Green Arrow DC Comics series. The show is described as a modern-day re-telling of the story. The comic book centered on Oliver Queen, a billionaire by day and masked hero by night, who uses an arsenal of trick arrows to defeat his enemies....

One occasion that you will often see in those online lists compiling the most awkward moments that have happened on television is Dakota Johnson calling out Ellen DeGeneres over a missed birthday party. In 2019, Johnson appeared as a guest on The Ellen DeGeneres Show when the two touched on a recent birthday party held by Johnson. DeGeneres asked how the party was before quipping that she “wasn’t invited,” and this had Johnson clarify that she had in fact invited DeGeneres, creating an awkward moment....

Fans have patiently awaited the return of Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira to The Walking Dead for years. Lincoln was the main protagonist and the series lead for AMC as Rick Grimes for nine seasons before his departure in 2018. Gurira joined the long-running show in Season 3 as the katana-wielding Michonne before her eventual exit in 2020 during the show’s tenth season. The fate of both characters was mainly left up in the air as Michonne searched for Rick after his dramatic disappearance in the previous season....

Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with Chevy Chase’s take on the Invisible legend entitled Memoirs of an Invisible Man. Nor do I think Kevin Bacon and his wang should be discredited for their performance in Hollow Man. But David Goyer’s new take on the mythical horror icon sounds rather interesting. According to Variety, Goyer has just been signed to direct The Invisible Man for Universal. This is more of a sequel than a remake....

Despicable Me is the highest-grossing animated film franchise and the 15th highest-grossing film ever. Bearing this in mind, it’s kind of hard to believe that the last movie starring Gru, the supervillain who managed to win audience’s hearts, hit the silver screen over five years ago, in June 2017. Nevertheless, and in spite of a lack of Despicable Me movies, the franchise kept on rolling, releasing Minions: The Rise of Gru, a prequel that chronicles the origins of Gru and his connection with the Minions, on July 1, 2022....

A brand-new poster for the upcoming Disney sequel Disenchanted has revealed a new release date for the movie’s debut on Disney+. Released courtesy of Walt Disney Studios, the poster reveals that Disenchanted will land on the platform six days earlier than expected on Friday, November 18. The long-awaited sequel had originally been scheduled for release on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 24. The news that Disenchanted will arrive a little earlier is no doubt music to the ears of Enchanted fans everywhere, who have been waiting more than a decade to once again bask in the endearing positivity of Amy Adams’ singing and dancing Disney princess, Giselle....

Todd Graff’s upcoming choir drama Joyful Noise has landed two musical luminaries in Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton. This casting news comes from Variety, who also note that the film will be distributed through Warner Bros.’ Alcon Entertainment. Graff, who wrote and directed last year’s well-received Bandslam, has written his own screenplay for Joyful Noise, a story that centers on two very busy and strong-willed women forced to save a small town gospel choir after budget cuts threaten to shut it down....

Viewership of the new film Don’t Look Up is skyrocketing on Netflix. The star-studded comedy, which premiered on the streamer on Dec. 24, sits in the No. 3 spot on the list of the most popular films on Netflix with 263.32 million hours viewed. Don’t Look Up is fast approaching Bird Box’s second-place spot at 282.02 million hours watched, but is still about a hundred million hours away from Red Notice’s numbers at 364....

You can bring home another hit from director Neil Marshall on DVD and Blu-Ray this July. Doomsday will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray on July 29. We don’t have any cover art as of yet but the standard disc will be priced at $29.98 and it will cost $39.99 on Blu-Ray. The film stars Rhona Mitra, Bob Hoskins and Malcolm McDowell. In Doomsday, a lethal virus spreads throughout a major country and kills hundreds of thousands....

Dune star Dave Bautista promises that this year’s sequel, Dune: Part Two, will be far more “amped up” than its predecessor. Speaking with Collider, Bautista helped push the hype train into super-speed, teasing the epic scope of the movie and its cutthroat, intense political chicanery.
