Filmstreet Productions has launched development of a feature about Focal Point, the first band signed to the Beatles’ Apple Music label. The company bought the rights to band member Paul Tennant’s book, All You Need Is Luck… or How I Got a Record Deal by Meeting Paul McCartney. As detailed in the yet-to-be-published book, Tennant and his bandmates chased McCartney into Hyde Park in London and talked their way into recording a demo, then got a deal after John Lennon and Brian Epstein heard the group play, shortly before Epstein died....

Detective Luther leaves the streets of London behind in the first images from the upcoming Luther movie. The pair of images find Idris Elba once again suiting up as Luther, with the detective and his unorthodox methods heading off to unfamiliar territory and, quite literally, leaving him out in the cold. Fox has set the fall premiere dates for its new and returning series. The 2013-2014 season begins with the return of The X Factor. IMAX Corporation and The Walt Disney Studios today announced that Tim Burton’s stop-motion, animated film, Frankenweenie will be digitally re-mastered into the immersive IMAX 3D format and released in IMAX digital theatres worldwide day-and-date on Oct. 5, 2012. The film marks the first black and white Hollywood feature and first stop-motion animated movie to be presented in IMAX. Academy Award winner Charlize Theron does not want to resort to calling The Old Guard 2 bigger and better – but she assures us that it is. Speaking with Variety, Theron teased the epic scale of the upcoming Netflix sequel, revealing that The Old Guard 2 will tackle the same world in unexpected ways and take things even more global than its predecessor. With social media helping books gain popularity, these adaptations will likely be even more popular in the coming years. Dakota Blue Richards, the 13-year-old British actress who made her debut in the leading role of New Line’s upcoming The Golden Compass, has been cast as the central character in Gabor Csupo’s The Secret of Moonacre, according to Variety. The film is based on the classic children’s novel “The Little White Horse” by Elizabeth Goudge. Richards plays Maria, an orphan sent to live with her uncle in mysterious Moonacre Manor. There she enters a world of magical creatures, and discovers that she is the only person who can undo an ancient curse and save Moonacre Valley....

Daniel Radcliffe never had any trouble shaking off his Harry Potter image, as since playing the J.K. Rowling wizard for a decade he had embodied a range of very different characters in movies like The Woman in Black, Horns, Escape From Pretoria and the upcoming The Lost City. One of his newest projects which is currently filming is Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, and the first set images of Radcliffe in full “Weird Al” mode have started appearing on social media....

I recently had the honor of speaking with director David Cronenberg, who was out promoting his new drama A Dangerous Method, which arrives in theaters November 23. We also talked about his new thriller Cosmopolis, which hits theaters sometime next year and stars Robert Pattinson and Juliette Binoche. I asked him if Cosmopolis will be the movie that will separate Robert Pattinson from his Twilight past. Here’s what the director had to say below....

Director Doug Liman will be heading to the slammer for a new film. According to Variety, Liman (Mr. and Mrs. Smith) has been set to direct film Attica. Liman will be directing from a script by Oscar-nominated Precious screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher, which will follow the infamous 1971 Attica State Prison uprising, that made national headlines during the four-day ordeal. Liman has a personal connection to the event - his father, Arthur Liman, was the chief counsel to the New York State Special Commission to Attica Prison, who berated Governor Nelson Rockefeller and other prison authorities for the carnage that ensued....

The season finale of Disney’s DuckTales has been shaping up to be a special hour ever since it was announced that Don Cheadle would be on the show to provide the voice of Donald Duck. Now, there’s even more of a reason to get excited because it’s been announced that the mysterious Della Duck will be featured and voiced by Criminal Minds actress Paget Brewster. Della has been referred to a lot over the course of the first season of the rebooted series, revealing where she’s been for all of these years....

The Dune universe began last year with the first installment in the expanding franchise from Denis Villeneuve. Dune was a massive hit with an ensemble cast of Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, and Stellan Skarsgård. The film was nominated for 10 Oscars, including Best Picture, walking away with six awards and $400 million at the box office. Eliza Dushku has just made a deal with 20th Century Fox to star in an upcoming, undetermined series. According to Variety, she recently starred in the Fox pilot Nurses, which was also produced by 20th Century Fox Television. 20th Century Fox TV president Dana Walden stated, “Clearly we’ve had a very long-term relationship with her. We wanted to be in a more significant business relationship now. She’s such an interesting, smart, soulful person and that all comes through on the screen....

Ellen DeGeneres will once again join Ryan Seacrest as co-host of Idol Gives Back, a music celebration raising awareness and funds to benefit various U.S. and international charities. DeGeneres will host from the Kodak Theatre with Seacrest hosting from the American Idol stage in Los Angeles Wednesday, April 9 (7:30-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. Having garnered a prestigious Governor’s Award Emmy for raising an incredible $76 million last year, this year’s Idol Gives Back will be bigger and more ambitious than ever....

Remember when Miss Cast Away & the Island Girls came out, and I told you it would usher in a new era of Eric Roberts? And you didn’t believe me? Well, it’s happening. HBO has released the first trailer for their upcoming special holiday episode of Euphoria. Since season 2 has been delayed, the network commissioned two special episodes to keep fans excited for the future. The hit series was created by Sam Levinson and is loosely based on the Israeli miniseries of the same name.
