Just days after The Tonight Show fiasco, NBC has picked up a pilot for an hour-long untitled project known as Justice, from Conan O’Brien’s production company, Conaco. According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC has also ordered the multicamera comedy pilot The Pink House. Justice was written by John Eisendrath and is described as a new take on a law show with a larger-than-life character at the center, and follows an ex-Supreme Court justice who quits the Court to start his own legal practice....

I joked to some friends that I would open this column with the words: “It seemed like a good idea at the time”. After the traffic, the parking woes, the waiting to get a pass, it almost felt like a waste of a day. Almost. I do not recommend going to the San Diego Comic-con on a whim. Careful planning is suggested, nay, required, as the number of events going on at any given time can make you wander around aimlessly....

An official trailer for DC League of Super-Pets has arrived. Following the pets of various crime-fighters in the DC Universe, the animated feature stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Krypto the Super-Dog, as has previously been announced. Kevin Hart co-stars as Ace the Bat-Hound, and as revealed in the new trailer, Keanu Reeves provides the voice of his owner, Batman, with the news coming just as The Batman arrives in theaters....

When Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness arrived in cinemas in May, there were plenty of moments that fans called out as being a little too cliché. While the touch of Sam Raimi was definitely on the movie, including on its extreme-zoom ending with Strange’s third eye opening in a moment that could have cut straight from Raimi’s Evil Dead movie endings. However, it seems that there was another possible ending discussed, which would have been possibly too much of a cheesy moment for even Raimi to pull off, and according to writer Michael Waldron, it involved a nod to Michael Jackson’s Thriller and could have included the iconic laugh of Vincent Price....

Marvel Studios announced today that Dominic Cooper has been cast to star as Howard Stark in the studio’s highly anticipated movie Captain America: The First Avenger opposite Chris Evans, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan and Stanley Tucci. In the film, Cooper will portray the younger version of Howard Stark, the character which John Slattery portrayed in Iron Man 2. Joe Johnston will direct the film penned by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely....

Before there was Robocop and Terminator, there was the cold-hearted and stone-faced law enforcer Judge Dredd. He was a recurring character in the anthologized British science fiction comic magazine 2000 AD beginning in 1977. The godfather of British comics, editor and writer Pat Mills, was joined by his writing partner, John Wagner, to develop characters and stories for the comic strip. Wagner had written for the discontinued Valiant comics, producing the hardened detective “One-Eyed Jack” inspired by Dirty Harry....

A number of films that have satirized or flat-out shown us our very likely future as the most unstable sentient species on the planet have made their mark over the years. In Pixar’s WALL-E (2008), a cute little robot showed us a future of our world as a desolate garbage heap while what’s left of humanity kicks back on a luxury spaceship as literal blobs that can’t bring themselves to walk anymore....

Few Hollywood screenwriters have generated the cult following, enormous paydays and water-cooler-friendly one-liners of Shane Black, a screenwriter whose words settled into our hearts with the release of Lethal Weapon in 1987. He seemed to catch lightning in a bottle in the 1980s, with his snappy dialogue, graphic action sequences and some hard-edged characters who quickly became household names. While the box office results of his films did not always live up to the large hype (or larger fees) associated with his scripts, nearly every film he has ever written has found a cult following among the cinemaphiles who still harken back to his halcyon days....

The Simpsons has found its exclusive streaming home on Disney+, Disney’s new streaming service which will launch on November 12 at just $6.99 a month. Disney held a big Investor Day event with tons of new info. The entire presentation was capped off with a special clip from Fox’s hit animated sitcom. The scene in question showed the entire Simpsons gang all saluting their new Disney ‘corporate overlords’. Which was a joke, but still pretty on the nose....

The Skywalker Saga has since concluded, but the Star Wars franchise has shown no signs of stopping. Lucasfilm has enjoyed continued success with the incredibly popular The Mandalorian, whose third season has wrapped filming and is expected to release late-2022 or early-2023. What’s more, the studio currently has many films and television series in development. After the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in late 2019, Lucasfilm redirected their focus on Star Wars television projects for Disney+....

The films of Yorgos Lanthimos are a big, fascinating, and unique vehicle into a surreal world, one with a heightened artificiality that twists and subverts reality into something truthful. Lanthimos told Issue Magazine, “I’m not interested in just trying to represent reality as it is. I can see that right in front of me.” The filmmaker was born in Greece, while studying at a film school he started making films with his friends, they had no funds, but had a lot of desire to tell stories....

For those who may not remember, Everybody Hates Chris is a period sitcom that takes place between 1982 and 1987. It is inspired by comedian Chris Rock’s memories of his adolescent years, and, as such, follows the life of a young Black boy named Chris, who tries to make it with his chaotic family and an all-white school in Brooklyn. It follows him as he navigates life with his eccentric family members, including frugal father Julius, intimidating mother Rochelle, spoiled sister Tonya, and younger brother Drew, who is more popular than Chris....

A significant update has come out of San Diego Comic-Con on the long-gestating Fantastic Four reboot. It has been known that a new Fantastic Four movie was heading to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a reimagining of the group joining their fellow Marvel superheroes. At SDCC, the new film was officially given a release date of Nov. 8, 2024. No casting or plot information was divulged about the project, but now we know when it’s coming along with its specific place in the MCU’s Phase Five....
