Emmy-award winner Debra Messing is set to star in the USA Network six-hour television event based on the New York Times best-selling 2005 novel The Starter Wife (Simon & Schuster) from author Gigi Levangie Grazer (Rescue Me, Maneater), it was announced today by Jeff Wachtel, executive vice president of original programming for USA. The Starter Wife will be executive produced by Grazer and penned by the writing team of Sara Parriott & Josann McGibbon (Runaway Bride), who will also serve as executive producers along with Stephanie Davis (The Caveman’s Valentine) and Howard Klein (The Office, Carnivale) from 3 Arts Entertainment....

The lineup of writers and directors who are working on Doctor Who season 11 have been revealed. It’s not exactly business as usual this year on the beloved and long-running sci-fi series. Not only does the series have a new showrunner in the form of Chris Chibnall (Broadchurch), who takes over for Steven Moffat, but we’re also getting the first ever female Doctor with Jodie Whittaker. Plus, she’s bringing with her a trio of new companions....

Earlier this month, Jeff Daniels revealed that Dumb and Dumber 2 is still alive and kicking, debunking a report from June that indicated Jim Carrey had dropped out of the comedy sequel. Director Bobby Farrelly has now confirmed that he and his brother Peter Farrelly still plan to direct this sequel sometime next year, and revealed a few tidbits about the story. The filmmaker also said they originally hoped to start shooting this fall, although that isn’t possible now that Jeff Daniels’ HBO show The Newsroom will be in production at that time....

Riding on the success of The Dark Knight in IMAX, DreamWorks/Paramount is giving Eagle Eye the IMAX treatment, converting the film to 70 mm IMAX for simultaneous showing when it opens September 26th. Additionally, the studios are creating an IMAX trailer that can be seen during previews for Warner Bros.’ The Dark Knight in IMAX theaters. The D.J. Executive producer Edward Neumeier takes us inside the world of Starship Troopers: Invasion, currently available on Blu-ray and DVD There are few who know the Starship Troopers universe better than Edward Neumeier. He first adapted the classic Robert A. Heinlein sci-fi novel for 1997’s Starship Troopers. In a crowded summer movie season, Warner Bros. has bet big on their musical biopic Elvis, starring Austin Butler as the title character and Tom Hanks in the role of Colonel Tom Parker, Elvis’ business manager, with the story exploring the rise and fall of the king of rock n roll. Notably, Elvis was one of the first films to be shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as star Tom Hanks was diagnosed with COVID-19 while filming and production shut down from March 2020 and did not resume production until September 2020....

Joe Swanberg has been killed a few times. The great filmmaker is friends with directors who have murdered him repeatedly, be it in the V/H/S films, the Ti West movie The Sacrament, or Adam Wingard classics like You’re Next and A Horrible Way to Die. Perhaps it’s their way of expressing their own admiration for Swanberg’s incredible directorial career (or a playful way to get back at him for being so darn good)....

What can possibly go wrong when a network reboots an early 2000s family sitcom, forcing its thoroughly dysfunctional cast back together? Hulu is betting that viewers will bite. So much so that the streaming giant allowed that rebooted series within its aptly titled new comedy, Reboot, to hail from Hulu itself. Meta? You bet. Emmy- Peabody- and Webby Award-winning actor Keegan-Michael Key loved the idea so much that he was jazzed to join forces with Modern Family creator Steve Levitan in the new comedy....

The MCU has always had a surprising relationship with comedy and improv. Kevin Feige and company consistently hire directors who have been famous for their comedy projects, such as the Russo brothers (Community, Arrested Development), Jon Favreau (Swingers, Chef), and Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows, Jojo Rabbit). They also have extensive bloopers and hours of outtakes featuring their actors riffing and improvising in charmingly funny ways. However, it’s not too often that random improvisation makes its way into defining MCU canon, but that’s exactly what Patty Guggenheim and Benedict Wong did in their instantly beloved episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law....

The Tribeca Film Festival has been taking place since June 8th, with many interesting titles premiering to acclaim. One of the most impressive films of last year’s Tribeca was Queen of Glory, which won the Best New Narrative Director Award, as well as a Special Jury mention; it also earned a Best First Feature nomination from the Independent Spirit Awards. Called a “witty and compassionate dark comedy” by The Hollywood Reporter and a “winning indie” by Variety, Queen of Glory is now getting its theatrical release (July 15th, to be exact)....

Black Widow is a recent solo superhero film revolving around Natasha Romanoff, the eponymous Black Widow, as she is forced to go on the run for a past betrayal and confront the dark past that she thought she’d buried. Black Widow is yet another addition to the MCU with a woman lead. Additionally, Black Widow was a commercial success and, according to CNET, had the third-largest opening for any MCU origin film, just behind Black Panther and Captain Marvel....

It looks like it’s going to be one bloody summer! In a story from Fangoria, they report that Brian Singleton’s Forest Of The Dead will be coming to DVD June 12 from Elite Entertainment. Warner Bros. Home Video has just released the information about the DVD Release of Smallville: The Complete Seventh Season, available September 9, 2008 on DVD and Blu-Ray. Superman mythology grows deeper and more powerful in an event-packed season that includes the arrival of Clark’s cousin Kara/Supergirl. And, there are two Clark Kents - one is the young man whose life in a tiny Kansas town sets him on destiny’s path. The other is a Bizarro who shares Clark’s DNA but not his values....

We are just over three months away from The Dark Knight Rises invading theaters nationwide July 20. Director Christopher Nolan recently spoke about utilizing the IMAX format for this sequel, and revealed it gives his Batman finale an operatic quality. The filmmaker also talked about his Wall Street shoot, and how his use of 65mm during scenes in Inception paved the way for his last movie in the franchise. “The operatic quality of The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises felt very well suited to IMAX’s larger canvas....

Two films with similar subject matter going into production at the same time is nothing new in Hollywood. But the latest news coming out of Pajiba might be very disturbing for Terry Gilliam, who has long tried and failed to get The Man Who Killed Don Quixote to the screen with legendary results. Some of which were chronicled in the acclaimed documentary Lost in La Mancha. According to the website, Warner Brothers and producer Joel Silver are in the process of fast-tracking the Untitled Joel Silver Don Quixote Project, which will be an action-packed updating of the legend similar to last year’s Sherlock Holmes, which Silver also produced....

When the convent sends the boys to visit the seaside one summer, they meet a young couple unable to have children. The two newlyweds decide that they would like to adopt one of the young boys, which causes a rift in the group....

Horror fans may be excited to know that the next feature film from genre legend Dario Argento will soon be released. It was announced by Shudder and IFC Midnight that Dark Glasses, an Italian thriller directed by Argento, will be opening at the IFC Center in New York and at the Laemmle Glendale in Los Angeles on Friday, Oct. 7, 2022. That will be followed by a streaming release on Shudder on Thursday, Oct....

When the Disney/Fox merger was completed, there were several R-rated franchise fans that imagined their favorite films suddenly becoming PG-13 under the control of the House of Mouse. One of those R-rated movies is Deadpool 3, which was in development before the merger took place, and due to Disney’s connection with Marvel Studios and the family-friendly MCU, questions were raised about how Deadpool would move forward. It seems that Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld is one of those nervous about how the third outing for the character will be handled....
