Marvel’s Eternals is only heading into its third week on release, but is already surging towards being one of the top five domestic movie releases of the year having passed the $300 million mark at the global box office, making it the seventh-highest U.S. grosser of 2021 just behind Daniel Craig’s long-delayed Bond finale, No Time To Die. While the critics and some audience reviews have been less than spectacular, it clearly is going to take a lot more than a bit of bad publicity to derail the Marvel train, which just seems to keep on chugging along....

My Animal made its premiere at Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah earlier this week, but for director Jacqueline Castel, the journey actually started in China. Indeed, in our phone interview leading up to the festival, Castel talked about being invited to a pitch market in China, and while the idea she brought with her was a completely different film, it was there that she met her My Animal producer, Michael Solomon....

The Social Network is the new film from The Curious Case of Benjamin Button director David Fincher. The drama, which is about the founding of Facebook, stars a cast of excellent young actors including Jesse Eisenberg (Zombieland), Andrew Garfield (Never Let Me Go), Rooney Mara (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Rashida Jones (I Love You, Man) and Justin Timberlake (Alpha Dog). X-Men: First Class opened in theaters across the country on June 3, taking in a healthy $56 million and proving the mutant franchise is still a viable one at the box office. The story takes us back to the inception of Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, with Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and his then-friend Erik Lensherr (Michael Fassbender) finding their first crop of young mutants. Although a sequel hasn’t been officially announced, X-Men: First Class is likely the first in a new superhero franchise for Marvel and 20th Century Fox, with a seemingly endless amount of characters who could be introduced....

Netflix announced today the Fast & Furious Animated Series, which stems from both Netflix’s expansion of their deal with DreamWorks Animation for original animated kids and family programming, and Comcast-NBCUniversal’s acquisition of the animated studio. Netflix’s deal with DreamWorks Animation has been expanded to include DreamWorks Animation series’ based on Universal Pictures’ film properties, such as the lucrative Fast & Furious franchise. The upcoming action sequel Fast X is reportedly now on track to be one of the most expensive movies ever made. According to a report by The Wrap, the budget for Fast X has now ballooned to an eye-watering, and wallet-busting, $340 million due to salaries for its A-list stars and drama behind-the-scenes. According to the report, sources “with knowledge of the production” have stated that Fast X has ended up costing the studio such a hefty sum due to “numerous budget-busting elements: increased salaries for series star Vin Diesel and the rest of the franchise’s ensemble cast, general increases in production costs caused by global inflation and charges for pandemic testing requirements mandated by COVID-19 safety protocols....

Fear the Walking Dead returns with an explosive midseason five premiere. “Channel 4” has the cast telling their story, documentary style for survivors, while negotiating a tricky minefield. They’ve already secured a gasoline supply and dumped Logan (Matt Frewer) in the opening montage. They’ve also abandoned the river mill. Rolling out in an armed convoy to help people. It’s a surprising turn of events after escaping the nuclear meltdown. “Channel 4” begins with Morgan (Lennie James) being interviewed by Al (Maggie Grace)....

Stranger Things season 4 has picked up more than a few comparisons to other shows since the arrival of the new trailer earlier this month. The Duffer Brothers have compared it to Game of Thrones, while star Brett Gelman has teased that the Russia-based storyline featuring Jim Hopper is like Indiana Jones and Star Wars. Now, Finn Wolfhard has added his own comparison into the mix by revealing that he believes the series is very much like Harry Potter....

FX has picked up March to Madness, a drama project from exec producer Don Cheadle that chronicles the glory and the seedy side of college basketball, according to Variety. Joel Silverman is writing the script, while Pete Segal (The Longest Yard) is set to direct. Also attached to the project alongside Silverman, Segal and Cheadle are former college basketball coach Dave Miller and Segal’s producing partner, Michael Ewing. March to Madness will revolve around a corrupt college basketball program that cheats its way to the “March Madness” NCAA basketball tournament....

Matthew Vaughn, the director of Stardust, has given Marvel a script and a concept for Thor, according to an article Vaughn wrote for The Guardian. Thor is going to focus on the epic nature of the God of Thunder, and could potentially be one of the most amazing epics ever made. The movie will take place in Asgard, the home of the gods, with little or no contact with the world of motals....

Marvel actor Charlie Cox is training hard for his return as The Man Without Fear in the upcoming Disney+ series, Daredevil: Born Again. A new clip shared by Team KF Martial Arts shows Cox working the pads as he trains with MMA trainer Chris Fields. During the 1990s, the sci-fi series The X-Files took the world by storm. The series followed the beloved FBI special agent twosome, Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, as they explored unexplainable cases and potential government conspiracies. The show’s success eventually led to movies, spinoff series, and eventually a short-lived revival, making The X-Files one of the longest-running science fiction series on television. Recently, during an interview with The Discourse podcast, X-Files star David Duchovny revealed whether or not he’d ever consider revisiting his iconic character....

A new teaser has been released for Dexter ahead of its upcoming return to Showtime. Bringing back Michael C. Hall as the vigilante serial killer, the limited series will basically serve as the ninth season of the popular TV series. Many international countries have been watching mature content on the Disney+ platform for a while now. However, the recent changes to its U.S. version that has seen the introduction of parental controls and the arrival of Marvel’s former Netflix series such as Jessica Jones and Daredevil have caused several heated discussions about what should and shouldn’t be on a platform that has primarily been catered to family only viewing. However, it looks like some of those sneaky Disney edits that saw changes previously made to scenes of Lilo and Stitch, Splash and more have now been made to one of the MCU’s recent TV shows to remove some violence from The Falcon and The Winter Soldier....
