Netflix will premiere Derek, an original series starring, written, directed and executive-produced by Emmy and Golden Globe winner Ricky Gervais on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at 12:01 AM PT. All seven 30-minute episodes in the series will be available at launch. Netflix members will have access to Derek in all territories where Netflix is available - U.S., Canada, Ireland, Latin America, Brazil and the Nordics - except for the UK, where the series premiered on Channel 4 and was recently renewed for a second season....

On the heels of the record-breaking premiere of the 4th season of Showtime’s Emmy-nominated series Dexter, the network has announced the launch of an exclusive animated webisode series entitled Dexter: Early Cuts. The twelve-part series told in four, one to two minute chapters, will premiere on Sunday, October 25 on Sho.com. Dexter: Early Cuts was conceived by Showtime as a way to continue building on the mythology and critical mass that has grown around the television series....

Producer-director Gary Winick sadly passed away last night at the age of 49 after battling brain cancer for several years. Here’s what his longtime manager, Rosalie Swedlin had to say about the director’s passing. Aside from directing movies such as Bride Wars, Charlotte’s Web, 13 Going on 30, and Tadpole, Gary Winick founded InDigEnt, an independent production company which produced 19 indie features since being founded in 1999. InDigEnt is also noted for sparking the digital revolution, using digital cameras to produce high-quality indie films with budgets under $100,000....

Once again, Disney+ has restored the original versions of some of their Marvel shows, this time restoring the tributes to Stan Lee and Reg E. Cathey to the final episodes of The Punisher and Luke Cage respectively. Following the arrival of the former Netflix Marvel Television series on Disney+, some fans had expected there could possibly be cuts made to the frequently adult-themed shows such as Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and The Punisher....

Next year there is literally going to be magic in the air! Walt Disney Pictures’ all new CG-animated feature Tinker Bell will arrive worldwide in Fall 2008 from Disney’s Buena Vista Worldwide Home Entertainment it was announced today by Bob Chapek, president of BVWHE. Tinker Bell, produced by DisneyToon Studios, will be the first time audiences hear Tinker Bell speak, as the movie brings to life the amazing world of Disney Fairies, The Walt Disney Company’s newest franchise, in all-new CG-animation with Brittany Murphy as the voice of the spunky and sassy fairy....

Last week, HBO finally unveiled the full Game of Thrones Season 7 trailer, which featured an interesting shot of Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) and Jamie Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) standing on a large map of Westeros, with Cersei telling her brother that that she will destroy all of her enemies. While this brief shot certainly didn’t show Cersei or her brother/former love Jamie Lannister in any direct danger, many think that this shot, when coupled with a scene from the Season 5 premiere, could ultimately be foreshadowing the death of a major character....

Edgar Wright, director of the comedy Hot Fuzz, has long been attached to a comedy about Marvel Comic’s shrinking superhero, Ant-Man. Speaking to Empire Online about a UK screening of Grindhouse, Wright discussed whether or not Ant-Man might be his next project. “It could be that. I finished the script and I’m having a meeting about it next week,” he said. “But it depends which comes first in the queue basically....

Edward Norton, via his Twitter account, has reported that his film Leaves of Grass (directed by Tim Blake Nelson) is being pushed back. It was supposed to be released these week. Norton says: In Leaves of Grass, Bill Kincaid, a college classics professor (Norton) is lured home from the Ivy League to the backwoods of Southeastern Oklahoma by his identical twin (also Norton), a hedonistic, pot- smoking career criminal. Kincaid finds that Plato and Marcus Aurelius have ill-prepared him for dealing with a gang of homicidal yokels....

The world’s sexiest, most outrageous and completely original movie hostess EVER is making her long-anticipated return to weekly television this fall, when Elvira’s Movie Macabre (tentative title) premieres on THIS! Television and in national syndication throughout the U.S. the weekend of September 25 (see local listings for station/day/time). The weekly two-hour movie block is distributed by Trifecta Entertainment & Media, and will air on television stations representing more than 80% of U....

Television’s biggest award show is almost here! The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards Emmys will be underway soon, and viewers will see if their favorite shows and actors will be the recipient of one of TV’s highest honors. Nominations were announced for the Primetime Emmys on July 12th, with the Television Academy, for the first time, not acknowledging which network or platform led the nominations but instead leading with which television show received the most nominations....

Eternals has emerged as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first “rotten” movie, and at the time of this writing sits at 53% on review-aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes. It was bound to happen eventually, but It’s still a little disappointing that it has. Until now, Marvel’s output has been 25 for 25, with each movie earning the red tomato symbol, and some of which even achieving the coveted “certified fresh” emblem. Eternals though has sadly ended the trend with a big, green splat now sat against its name....

Michelle Yeoh is back in action with the role of a lifetime — or perhaps several lifetimes, given the film’s multiverse premise — as a mom in distress in Everything Everywhere All At Once. The sci-fi adventure storyline follows an exhausted laundromat owner (Yeoh) who can’t seem to finish her taxes, only to be pulled by forces greater than her own across different lifetimes and versions of her existence in an effort to save the world from destruction....

With 24 nominations, A24 crushed this year’s Film Independent Spirit Awards. The film Everything Everywhere All at Once, directed by Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, leads with eight nominations. After launching at SWSW last March, it became A24’s biggest-grossing movie, with $70M domestic and $103M worldwide. In Everything Everywhere All at Once, Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Crazy Rich Asians) takes on the role of Chinese-American laundromat owner Evelyn Wang who is entangled in a series of multiverse events....

There would likely be an entire alternate history of cinema if Greg MacGillivray didn’t film some surfers in ‘72. That may seem like a rather grandiose suggestion, but it’s true in some integral ways. MacGillivray and Jim Freeman grew up making low-budget surf films in the late ’60s, a trend which peaked (and arguably ended) with Five Summer Stories, a movie in which the filmmaker developed a new way of photographing nature and motion, and conjoining image with audiophile sound quality....

Few would have thought that a relatively small, $17 million movie about competing, largely female a cappella groups would launch a $600 million franchise, but that’s exactly what Pitch Perfect did. A delightful ensemble cast gelled well together at the forefront of big jukebox musical numbers and a weirdly popular song with cups, and the resulting concoction was fun, quirky, and aurally addictive. Some of the best aspects of the three Pitch Perfect films were the supporting storylines and actors who decorated the glitzy artifice with more substance and character....

The Good A great show continues its seasonal run on DVD. The Bad Very paltry extras. Family Ties: The Third Season returns TV on DVD lovers to the Keaton household. With Elyse (Meredith Baxter Birney), Steven (Michael Gross), Alex (Michael J. Fox), Mallory (Justine Bateman) and Jennifer (Tina Yothers), we see a modern 1980s family coping with some interesting generation gaps. On the one hand you have the parents from the 1960s and 1970s who are still trying to change the world....

Fox is getting heavily into underwater sci-fi in June. In a story from DavisDVD, it seems that on June 5th, 20th Century Fox will be giving fans a triple dose of science fiction from yesteryear.
