Based on the book of the same name by Stephen Chbosky, The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a coming-of-age movie that follows Charlie, a socially awkward wallflower, and his struggles as he navigates high school until Sam (Emma Watson) and her step-brother Patrick (Ezra Miller) take him under their wing. Charlie feels an instant attraction to Sam, although she doesn’t initially acknowledge him, while Patrick helps him gain a sense of humour to not take things too seriously....

In a seven figure deal, Ghost House Pictures has set Uruguayan commercials director Fede Alvarez to direct his pitch for an alien invasion film, which will mark his feature directing debut. According to Variety, Alvarez scored his million-dollar deal based on the heat generated by Ataque de panico! (Panic Attack), a four-minute, 48-second short about an apocalyptic robot attack Alvarez directed through his commercial production house for less than $500. After the short found its way to the Internet and Kanye West featured a link to the film on his blog, a 30-year old who was not on anyone’s radar outside the Uruguayan blurb market suddenly found the biggest agencies in Hollywood in a panic to sign him....

The first reactions to Netflix’s upcoming sci-fi family adventure flick, The Adam Project, have arrived, with many praising the movie as a funny, emotional, imaginative 80s throwback. Starring Ryan Reynolds, The Adam Project is due for release later this year, and it sounds like it could be a seriously good time. The Adam Project finds director Shawn Levy once again working alongside Free Guy star Ryan Reynolds, with the movie featuring a different kind of character for Reynolds than audiences are perhaps used to....

Four competitors have just been eliminated from the hit show American Idol. According to a press release from Fox, Robbie Carrico, Alexandrea Lushington, Alaina Whitaker and Jason Yeager were eliminated from the competition. On March 4th, the top eight guys will perform, followed by the top eight girls on March 5th. Season six finalist Blake Lewis will appear for Top 12 performances on March 6th. Fox picked up the comedy, The Beast from Tucker Cawle. The show is based on the British series Beast, created by Simon Nye; it’s set in a workplace centering on a charming and womanizing veterinarian who hates animals but loves the perks his job provides, says The Hollywood Reporter. Fox additionally is taking on an untitled comedy written and executive produced by Elizabeth Meriwether; it revolves around four single women who adjust to life after college....

Paramount Pictures is still in early development on Star Trek 2, and now it seems that director J.J. Abrams is finally ready to commit to the sequel. However, Paramount is ditching the planned July 29, 2012 release for Star Trek 2, handing that release date over to G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes. G.I. A trio of clips from the upcoming Disney+ movie Chip ’n Dale: Rescue Rangers tease the return of the Disney chipmunks as they make the leap into live-action. Starring John Mulaney as Chip and Andy Samberg as Dale, the new footage (which comes courtesy of JoBlo) offers just a taste of the snappy dialogue and meta-approach to the material, as Chip ‘n Dale must reunite once again to solve a mystery....

Comic-Con International has released the full Saturday schedule for Comic-Con 2017, which runs from Wednesday, July 19 through Sunday, July 23. While movies used to rule San Diego this time of year, it seems clear that the small screen has taken over, with far fewer movies coming to Hall H, which will feature two of the most popular shows on the air on Saturday, July 22, HBO’s Westworld and Netflix’s Stranger Things....

Closing arguments in the fraud case against Chrisley Knows Best stars Todd and Julie Chrisley ended Friday, allowing jurors a couple of hours to deliberate before leaving for the weekend. One jury member did not return to hear the case on May 23 after notifying the court he had tested positive for COVID-19. On Friday, a female juror was dismissed after appearing to have been fighting sleep during closing arguments. Judge Eleanor Ross told the woman she had been observing her struggling to stay awake throughout the entire trial and felt it impaired her ability to find the case....

Doctors Ten and Thirteen will unite for the upcoming video game Doctor Who: The Edge of Reality. On Sunday, it was announced by Maze Theory and BBC Studios that two new Doctor Who video games are in the works. One of the games, The Edge of Reality, is planned for a release on consoles and PC in Spring 2021. Described as a reimagining and expansion of last year’s virtual reality title Doctor Who: The Edge of Time, the first-person game puts players in the role of the Thirteenth Doctor in an all-new adventure....
