Disney’s Encanto kept its number one spot at the box office this weekend. The latest from Walt Disney Animation Studios brought in $12.7 million, which was more than enough to take the top spot. As of this writing, Encanto has earned just over $116 million globally since debuting in theaters last weekend. The box office as a whole is down, continuing the yearly trend of after the long Thanksgiving weekend, though an uptick will come the weekend after next, courtesy of Sony and Marvel Studios....

When it comes to video game to onscreen adaptions, no other franchise does it better than Resident Evil. Since 2002, the franchise has spawned six movies starring Milla Jovovich (who has already claimed interest in returning) as the zombie-slaying Alice. Created by Paul W.S. Anderson, Resident Evil has become the highest-grossing and longest-running franchise in its genre. Keeping the franchise-beast alive, the latest installment in the series Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City veers off sharply to the left with an entirely new cast and director/screenwriter Johannes Roberts at the helm....

Austin Powers is the famously hilarious parody of James Bond created by Mike Myers. With bad teeth and a not-so-subtle sexual appetite, the spy from British Intelligence, Austin Powers, charms us all when he is thawed after being frozen for thirty years in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. Austin struggles to adapt to the new way of things, where peace and free love ran free in the 1960s, cynicism and distrust took their place in the 1990s....

The McLusky family are power brokers in Mayor of Kingstown, Paramount’s hit drama series that tackles themes of systemic racism, corruption, and inequality. The series stars Jeremy Renner as Mike McLusky, Taylor Handley as Kyle McLusky, Dianne Wiest plays their mother Miriam, alongside Hugh Dillon, Tobi Bamtefa, and more. “It’s sort of a family drama dilemma, enmeshed with the huge drama and dilemma of our prison system in America, and how the world is sort of divided into gangs,” commented Wiest....

Acclaimed actor Johnny Flynn pulls double duty in The Score. The songs from his band, Johnny Flynn & The Sussex Wit, are used throughout the film. The heist musical follows two small-time crooks on a fateful day. They drive to a rural café for a meeting with an expected big payoff. Flynn plays a supporting role as the older, duplicitous Mike. His plan’s go awry when Troy (Will Poulter) falls in love with a feisty waitress (Naomie Ackie)....

Reprising their roles from a Nickelodeon sketch on All That, Kel Mitchell and Kenan Thompson brought Good Burger to the big screen in 1997. Based on characters from the Nickelodeon universe, Good Burger follows diner employees Ed (Mitchell) and Dexter (Thompson) as they battle against Mondo Burger’s high-tech hamburger, a competing burger joint opening across the street. Alongside Mitchell and Thompson in the cast are Abe Vigoda, Sindbad, Shar Jackson, Linda Cardellini, George Clinton, Carmen Electra, and Shaq....

On Thursday, we reported that actor Garrett Hedlund is in talks to star as Kaneda in Akira. Since that role seems to be locked up, Warner Bros. is now focusing on casting Kaneda’s brother, Tetsuo, with Ezra Miller (We Need to Talk About Kevin) and Alden Ehrenreich (Tetro) reading for the part. Tetsuo is a young man who develops telekinetic abilities, which the government wants to harvest for their own means....

Cinemax is set to debut its sexy new late-night thriller anthology Femme Fatales this Friday, May 13th, at 11:00 pm ET/PT. From the creators of Femme Fatales Magazine comes this series which looks at powerful, sexy and dangerous women who find extraordinary ways of coping with their problems, channeling their survival instincts and bringing out their inner guile. It seems like everything in Hollywood these days is either getting a reboot, a remake, or a legacy sequel. No genre is safe, as this touches everything from comedy to horror. Some films that are receiving sequels are piggybacking on storylines that are almost 30 years old. As far a reach as an original idea seems in this day and age, there are positives that come from rebooting a franchise. A lot of films that are getting reboot treatments have beloved storylines and characters that have long withstood the test of time....

Following the Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 4 preview that debuted after Sunday night’s episode, HBO has released 10 new photos from The Spoils of War, airing Sunday, August 6 at 9 PM ET on HBO. The network has also offered a cryptic synopsis for the episode, revealing that “Daenerys fights back. Jaime faces an unexpected situation. The first official artwork for Clerks III has been released. This year the panel consisted producers Olen Koules and Marc Berg, director David Hackl, actors Tobin Bell, Julie Benz, Betsy Russell, Costas Mandylor and Scott Patterson along with the screenwriters Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton.
